Some Christian apologists [Protestants] often attack the Jesus Prayer, which Orthodox Christians repeat, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."

They claim repeating this prayer is sinful because of the verse about "vain repetitions." But that is not what the verse actually teaches.

These apologists often quote "do not use vain repetitions" and assume that means repeating prayers is wrong.

But read the verse carefully. The problem Christ condemns is vain repetition, not repetition itself.

The pagans believed that saying more words and to be seen by men would magically force their gods to act. It was superstition, not prayer.

The irony is that Scripture itself shows righteous repetition in prayer.

In Gospel of Matthew 26:44, Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane prayed to the Father three times saying

アンドロニク（修道誓願前の姓：ニコリスキイ、Andronik (Nikolsky)、1870年8月13日（ユリウス暦の8月1日） – 1918年6月20日 (ユリウス暦の7月7日）は、ロシア正教会と日本正教会の主教。正教会で聖人。日本正教会では初代京都の主教でもあった事から、「ペルミの神品致命者聖アンドロニク」の称号のほかに「初代京都の主教聖アンドロニク」の名でも呼ばれる。

Saint Elder Ephraim of the Holy Mountain and Arizona (+2019)

On Saturday 7 December 2019 Elder Ephraim fell asleep in the Lord at the Holy Monastery of St Anthony in Arizona in the USA. His funeral service was held on 11 December 2019 at the same Monastery in the midst of many of his spiritual children, whom he brought to new birth spiritually: clergy, monks and laypeople of all ages and categories.

He was honoured by the Ecumenical Patriarch with a message that was read out during the funeral service by the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Philotheou on the Holy Mountain, Archimandrite Nikodimos, who

Saint Gobnata (Gobnet, Gobnait) of Ballyvourney, Ireland (+6th ce.) - February 11

6th century One of the most popular of the saints of Munster, she was born in County Clare but had to flee from enemies and took refuge in the Isle of Aran, where there is a church at Inisheer, Kilgobnet, Gobnat's church. Fr. George Maximov, a Moscow priest who often serves on missionary trips throughout Asia, has posted on his Facebook page the words of a Vietnamese woman who converted to Orthodoxy after the Mother of God appeared to her.
